How many times have I thought to myself I’ll do that, maybe next year. Well here we are and the time is NOW!! Can you believe it? I've done it...I've run a Half Marathon. I really CanToo!

If you’re going to try something like this and you haven’t done it before it can be a little daunting. Being part of the Can Too Team is fantastic, there is lots of positive energy during training and on race day!! Did you see our fantastic bright orange running singlets??

Wow...I’ve run a Half Marathon! - How good does it feel!!

I certainly didn’t set any speed records but what a day! I was lucky enough to have Helen, one of my coaches, run just over half the race with me, we picked up Fiona (another of my coaches) with her fantastic CanToo balloon and tutu at Circular Quay. Craig, Anthony and Mum were about 100m from the finish. As we crossed the line they announced who I was and the crowd went up in a HUGE cheer – how do you beat that for a mornings adventure!!

It will be days, maybe weeks before the smile goes!!

Some highlights:

  • Finishing in 3 hours 22 minutes – faster than I had planned!
  • The huge smiles on Craig and Mum’s faces when we came around the bend on the way to the finish!
  • Running (at my pace) the whole way!
  • Kurt Fearnley wizzing past on his way to win the Marathon (Wheelchair) race - what an amazing Athlete!

For the Sydney Running Festival the CanToo Team have raised just over $300,000 – funding 4 Cancer Researchers. If you didn't get the chance to sponsor me this time around...The next one is just around the corner...

The race may now have been run...but for me it's back to the gym! There is a lot to do over summer before team training starts in February for the SMH Half Marathon on 18 May 2008. Now I know I can finish a Half Marathon, the new goal is to finish the next one in under 3 hours!!

Want to join me for the SMH Half Marathon as part of the CanToo Team? Jump onto the CanToo website www.cantoo.org.au and register. Come February...watch this space for updates on my progress!

See you at the finish line...
